The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is a 2-day, Ofqual-regulated course designed for those working with infants and young children. It meets all requirements set out in the Department for Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework.

This course gives learners the confidence and practical skills to handle a wide range of medical emergencies involving babies and young children — whether you work in an early years setting, school, or in a home-based childcare environment.

  • Staff in medium or high-risk workplaces who need to maintain their first aid qualification

The Paediatric First Aid course is designed for anyone working with babies and young children.

 

It covers everything from CPR and choking to allergic reactions, seizures, and common childhood conditions — all in line with the EYFS statutory framework. This 2-day course leads to a Level 3 qualification, valid for 3 years.

Training is tailored to your environment wherever possible.

Syllabus

  • The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

  • Assessing an emergency situation safely

  • Infant and child CPR and defibrillation

  • Recovery position

  • Choking

  • Head, neck and back injuries

  • Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions

  • Meningitis, seizures and febrile convulsions

  • Asthma and diabetic emergencies

  • Burns, scalds, bleeding and shock

  • Electric shock, poisoning, and bites/stings

  • Eye, ear and nose conditions

  • Managing temperature extremes

This content aligns fully with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) syllabus.

  • Can be delivered as a 2-day block course, or 1-day per week for 2 weeks.

  • Assessment. There are practical assessment for a variety of activities such as CPR, Recovery Position etc. Delegates will also complete a short multiple-choice based assessment at the end of day 1 and day 2.
